What We Do
Empowering Lake Houston through civic action, education, and care.
At the Lake Houston Civic Engagement Coalition (LHCEC), our work centers on empowering residents with the tools and resources they need to thrive — at the polls, in schools, and throughout the community. We believe that informed, healthy, and engaged citizens are the foundation of a resilient democracy.
Here’s how we make it happen:
Voter Education, Registration & Participation
We help Lake Houston residents understand how to vote, why it matters, and where to begin.
Our team offers:
Nonpartisan voter education workshops
Voter registration drives across schools, churches, and neighborhoods
Step-by-step guides on how to vote in local, state, and national elections
Goal: Increase civic knowledge and turnout in underserved communities.
Youth Mentorship & School Support
We believe every child deserves support, both inside and outside the classroom.
LHCEC works with local partners to:
Provide school supplies to students at Title I campuses
Recruit and match youth with caring mentors
Host academic and civic enrichment programs for teens
Disaster Preparedness & Relief Coordination
We help families prepare for and recover from natural disasters through local response networks.
Our disaster readiness efforts include:
Distributing emergency supply kits and planning tools
Hosting preparedness workshops in vulnerable neighborhoods
Partnering with relief agencies to provide food, shelter, and safety information
School Board Advocacy & Education Equity
Local elections — especially school board races — shape our children’s futures. We advocate for equitable school representation and support candidates who reflect our community’s values.
We also:
Educate parents and residents on the importance of school board decisions
Promote voter awareness during school board election cycles
Partner with Title I schools to improve student outcomes
Community Health & Access to Care
Children can't succeed if their basic needs aren’t met. We prioritize partnerships that provide critical medical care to those who need it most.
Our initiatives include:
Free or low-cost clinics in schools for children of resource-constrained families.
Connecting families with service providers and follow-up resources
Partnerships for Progress
Everything we do is possible because of collaboration. LHCEC brings together parents, teachers, organizers, healthcare workers, and local businesses to build a stronger Lake Houston.
We’re always looking for:
Community partners to co-host events and programs
Business sponsors to provide in-kind donations or services
Volunteers and mentors to guide the next generation
